The January blues is a very real thing, and we think it is safe to say it’s one of the saddest months of the year (sorry, Capricorn & Aquarius). Christmas is over for another year, and practically everyone you know is doing dry January! We know it seems like a lot to tackle and easier to hide in your bed, but it can be done! It’s important we take small steps in order to beat the blues that so many of us face! We have put together a couple of tips that will help you combat the January blues head-on.
1. Don’t Worry About Resolutions
With the uncertainty we have all faced in the past couple of years – about well everything, maybe 2022 isn’t the year to set huge resolutions for yourself, as you’ll only beat yourself up when they’re unachievable! If you’re still wanting to set a few personal goals, keep them smaller and more specific, so you have a chance to achieve them and feel good about them.
Super cliché, we know! Exercise is the easiest way to get a quick serotonin boost and improve your mood. Gyms are back open, and now is the perfect time to be bagging yourself a good deal at your local gym! If going to the gym isn’t your thing, don’t stress; there are loads of great YouTube workout videos easily available now! Find a routine you enjoy; whether it’s 20 minutes of yoga or a brisk walk around the block, exercise doesn’t always have to be a sweaty HIIT workout. Trust us! 3. Self Care
Take some time out of your day to focus on yourself. Whether this means having a pamper session with a bubble bath and a facemask, sitting down with a coffee and a book, or re-watching your favourite tv series, these are all ways for you to relax and put your daily stresses to one side.
4. Girl’s Night
Life can certainly get in the way of spending time with your besties. So why not book in to see your girls at some point this month? Not only does girl’s night increase your mood, but it is also proven to reduce your stress levels as well. Girl’s night, we believe, is one of the best ways to cure your January blues. Not only do you catch up on everything you have missed the past couple of weeks, but it is also a great opportunity to let loose and have some fun. The weather might be rubbish, but your mood doesn’t have to be!
5. Get Some Fresh Air
When the temperatures have dropped, the last thing we want to do is venture outside. However, we should make the most of the daylight we have and try and get out at least once a day. Even if this involves walking to the local shop instead of driving on your lunch break. Fresh air always makes us feel more energised and helps lift our mood!
6. Read a Book
Even if you’re not a big reader, reading is the perfect way to escape from your everyday. From motivational novels of your favourite celebs to jam-packed fantasies of entirely different worlds. Reading allows you to relax, sit back, and enjoy some calm – which is something we could all get a lot more of! Also, it perfectly complements your favourite hot or alcoholic beverage – what more excuses do you need? You will definitely feel a lot better about it.
7. Be Kind To Yourself
It’s natural to feel low in the colder, darker months of the year. Especially with the past couple of years we’ve all had, it’s completely acceptable to not feel like your usual positive self, so please don’t beat yourself up about it. Be kind to yourself, and remember this won’t last forever! Brighter days are coming, so look after yourself in the meantime.
