It’s official, everyone (including me) is having a baby! I’m the fourth person in our office to announce my pregnancy and we’re all taking bets on who will be next; I guess that’s what happens when you work in a female dominated business #girlpower. Outside of work one of my old school friends has just given birth to her second baby girl, my best friend is about to drop at any minute, and my sister-in-law is due in the next couple of months. There’s definitely something in the air around me.
Now that summer has finally arrived, my mind has quickly shifted it’s focus to pulling together the ultimate summer pregnancy wardrobe to keep me feeling confident and cool, and of course looking stylish. It’s hot hot hot out there and only the best dressed will survive. With this in mind I have put together a summer style guide to help us mamas get through the heat in style and comfort, and thankfully the Yours plus size maternity range has everything we could possibly need.
The Maxi Dress
A summer staple, the maxi dress is a must-have for a maternity wardrobe as it provides great coverage. This maxi comes in an on-trend colour, is made from a stretch jersey fabric (bonus!), and has the added feature of a nursing function making this dress ideal for before and after pregnancy.
The best kind of summer trouser has got to be palazzos, and luckily they work well for a maternity wardrobe too. They are such an easy pull-on style and the wide-legs are ideal for keeping cool in the warm weather. I’ll be wearing mine with a simple cami top and some wedges.
The Work Blouse
If you work in an office like I do, then you know all about air-con dramas! We are currently waiting for a new system to be fitted near my desk so in the meantime I’m all about loose fitting, breathable styles like this super cute blouse. The cape sleeves on this top provides extra arm coverage and the floral print gives a lovely feminine vibe.
The Occasion Piece
This weekend I have a summer garden party for my Grandma’s birthday; it’s an annual event which all of my family attend so I want to look my best. I’ve decided to wear a wrap over midi dress similar to these ones as the cut is super flattering for my growing bump and it has a lovely loose drape to the hem. I think it’s so important to treat yourself to a nice occasion piece even if you only end up wearing it once or twice – I certainly won’t be able to afford to splurge once the baby arrives!
Jersey Jersey Jersey
Finally, I have quickly learned the importance of jersey fabric during this blooming period in my life – to be more exact STRETCH jersey. Leggings are my new best friend and I’m going to be investing in some casual tops like this layered nursing top and this simple cami which is a basic essential for the summer season. Stretch jersey is comfortable, great value, and versatile – it’s a pregnancy must.
I hope this style guide has helped to prepare you for pregnancy through the summer heat! What are some of your maternity style tips?
